Did a bottomless canyon suddenly appear in Pingtung County Zhongshan Park!? Don’t think it’s a natural disaster—this is a custom-made 3D street painting by the Pingtung County Police Department’s Traffic Squad to highlight the importance of road safety. Officially completed in November, it’s a first for Pingtung and has become a highly talk-worthy traffic safety campaign, expected to attract more tourists.

Through creativity, rigid safety slogans have been transformed into 3D murals. Painted on a bustling street in Zhongshan Park, Pingtung City, and integrating the park’s features with a sky theme, the artwork includes zebra crossings on the ground that make pedestrians feel as if they’re floating above a cloud canyon. The hyper-realistic scene gives the impression that one might fall into the canyon if not walking on the zebra crossing, which leads to the safety of home—symbolizing that using the crosswalk is the only safe way home. A pigeon representing police also soars through the canyon, metaphorically guarding this journey home.
The surrounding area also features 3D installations illustrated with cute and approachable images conveying messages like “Wear your seatbelt while driving,” “Wearing a helmet while riding a scooter keeps you safe,” and “The perils of drunk driving.”The painting process also piqued the curiosity of both pedestrians and flocks of pigeons, creating an adorable scene.

Chen Wenyao, head of the Police Department’s Traffic Squad, stated that traffic safety promotion is a key annual focus for their unit. This year, they broke from tradition by using trendy 3D murals to emphasize road safety. Through visuals, they aim to softly convey the message to the public, hoping to achieve both tourism and promotional benefits. Mr. Su, a local resident, also mentioned that such planning allows children to learn and grow through play, making it a great opportunity for experiential education.
The landscape is painted at the intersection of Gongyuan Road and Zhonghua Road, becoming a new highlight of Zhongshan ParkPassing pedestrians often mistake it for a real drop-off, getting goosebumps from head to toe. It’s so lifelike that both adults and kids rush to strike exaggerated poses for photos, having a blast.
