No need to go to Japan to see night cherry blossoms – these 6 spots in Taiwan also offer the view

Every spring, many people rush to Japan to admire the cherry blossoms. Besides the beautiful daytime blooms, many places also open for night cherry blossom viewing, where the flowers take on a different romantic charm under the lights. But night blossoms aren’t only found in Japan – there are six places in Taiwan where you can enjoy them too, without spending on airfare or accommodation.

Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village
The Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off on February 2 (through February 28). Most notably, it’s the only certified “cherry blossom viewing spot” overseas in Japan. Visitors can not only admire the over 5,000 blooming cherry trees in the park during the day, but also experience the unique “night cherry blossoms,” featuring a light sculpture show with dazzling lights and musical melodies. Moreover, February is the only month that Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village stays open in the evening, with operating hours extended to 7:30 PM.

Tamsui Tianyuan Temple
Tamsui Tianyuan Temple has long been a popular cherry blossom destination. The so-called “King of Cherry Blossoms,” the Yoshino cherry tree, suddenly withered last November, which was lamented by many. However, there are still plenty of Yoshino cherries around, and they look even more beautiful under the night lights.

Wuling Farm
The Wuling Farm cherry blossom season begins on February 11 and runs through February 28, treating visitors to 18 straight days of romantic pink blossoms every day. In addition to daytime blooms, you can also enjoy night cherry blossoms near the medical station, in the cherry tree grove, every evening from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Tai’an Police Station
The Tai’an Police Station in Taichung is hailed as one of the most beautiful police stations in the country, thanks to its 200-meter-long cherry blossom-lined path. The night lighting makes the blossoms even more romantic.

Alishan
The “King of Cherry Blossoms” at Alishan, which attracts large numbers of visitors every year, displays its beautiful blossoms during peak season. In addition to the daytime view, the cherry king is also stunning at night.

Yangmingshan National Park
The Yangmingshan Flower Festival officially begins on February 10. The Taipei City Department of Parks and Recreation has newly opened a night cherry blossom viewing area near the fountain and the statue of Chiang Kai-shek in Yangmingshan Park. Every evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, landscape lighting highlights different aspects of the cherry blossoms.
