Tokyo Light Festival Illuminates the Romantic Christmas Night with Eight Spectacular Light Displays

Every year around November, Christmas lights are lit up one after another across Japan. The twinkling lights turn squares into seas of illumination and streets into starry rivers, offering visitors to Japan a taste of the most dreamlike Christmas. Most of these enchanting winter light displays conclude on December 25th. Among the many seasonal illuminations, Tokyo’s are the most densely packed and spectacular.

● Marunouchi Illumination 2014
The roadside trees along Marunouchi Naka-dori are adorned with approximately 1.11 million “champagne gold” LED lights in Marunouchi’s signature color, emitting an elegant glow that creates a refined street atmosphere. The world’s most eco-friendly decorative lighting has been further developed, successfully achieving the “next-generation eco-friendly decorative lighting.” Without compromising brightness or radiance, each bulb saves an additional 30% in power consumption.

● Tokyo Tower Winter Fantasy
Tokyo Tower kicks off its winter fantasy light display starting November 3. This year, it is themed around The Nutcracker, continuing until February 2015. In addition to the Nutcracker-themed Mouse Kingdom lights in the observation deck, the main square also features the ever-popular highlight — a giant Christmas tree. The entire space will be sparklingly decorated with colorful lights and accompanied by a magnificent synchronized light and music show on the Christmas tree. A visit to Tokyo is not complete without seeing this.

● Roppongi Artelligent Christmas 2014
Artelligent is an annual event. This year, it uses 1.1 million LED lights, transforming Roppongi Hills into a glittering Christmas market. There are also numerous light decorations on the ground, and the observation deck offers a panoramic view.

● Roppongi Midtown Christmas 2014
Tokyo’s Roppongi Midtown installed 180,000 LED lights over a grassy area of about 600 square meters in Starlight Garden, with a cosmic travel theme. In addition to static lighting with varying colors and brightness levels, there are also dynamic light effects that simulate flowing light, depicting scenes such as reaching outer space, flying through the galaxy, weightless environments, and transcending time and space.
