Among them, “Shihfen Waterfall Park,” home to Taiwan’s largest curtain-style waterfall, will reopen on December 29, while “New Taipei City Happy Christmas Town,” voted by netizens as Taiwan’s hottest Christmas attraction, will offer additional exciting stage performances during the four-day break and introduce three brand-new free amusement facilities.

Banqiao District, where the New Taipei City Government is located, features a harmonious blend of soaring commercial buildings and the classically elegant Lin Family Garden. What was once a fertile plain settled by early pioneers and a bustling river transport hub has now become the political and commercial heart of New Taipei City—shining brightly and ready to surge forward, embracing tradition while transforming into a vibrant cultural and creative destination heading into the future. During the New Year’s holiday, spend a day as a cultured urbanite at the 435 Arts & Culture District, admire the interplay of water and light on Crescent Bridge, enjoy family fun at New Taipei City Happy Christmas Town, and experience a dreamlike amusement park.

● Railways & Waterfalls, Breathe in Nature

Visitors can take a train to nearby Houkeng to explore the cat village and mining heritage sites. Then, via the green corridor trail, enter the Shihfen Waterfall Park area, where the walkway is lined with various types of vegetation accompanied by the sounds of insects and birds, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in nature. Finally, head to the Pingxi Police Substation (also known as the Sky Lantern Police Station) in Jingting to write your wishes on the glass panels of the “Police Sky Lantern,” offering a fun alternative to traditional sky lanterns.

Shihfen Waterfall has a drop of about 20 meters and a width of about 40 meters. Its outer rock layers incline opposite to the direction of the water flow, making it a reverse-inclined waterfall. For a unique New Year’s Day sunrise experience in 2015, artists in Shuangsi Cave welcome everyone to experience the beauty of craftsmanship. Spend the night in Shuangsi Cave, handcraft your very own unique wooden chair, and then sit and watch the sea of clouds and greet the sunrise on New Year’s morning with your creation in hand—starting the new year with art and cultural creativity. After the sunrise event, return to Ruifang Station, enjoy local delicacies in the area, and take in the old mining town vibes of Jiufen and Jinguashi.
