The winter climate in Penghu is harsh, often giving visitors the impression of a desolate and lifeless place. But now, you can also admire beautiful, vibrant flower seas when you visit Penghu. The Penghu Branch of the Agricultural Research and Extension Station began hosting the “Penghu Flower Sea Festival – Flowers Bloom in Penghu, Joyful Sheep on the Flowery Island” event on January 24, 104 (2015), running until the 30th. During this time, you can enjoy the results of Penghu’s winter greening efforts and admire the stunning winter flower seas in the park!

Penghu is known as the “Most Beautiful Bay in the World.” In summer, tourists flock to its various scenic spots to enjoy sightseeing and water activities. However, located in the path of the northeast monsoon and lacking high mountain barriers, Penghu is hit by seasonal winds around the Mid-Autumn Festival. The strong winds and salt damage quickly turn the island's landscape bleak and lifeless. To improve the harsh winter environment in Penghu, the Kaohsiung Regional Agricultural Research and Extension Station used the Penghu Branch as a base, planting “leafless tamarisk” trees as a windbreak and developing an “agroforestry mixed cultivation model.” This effectively reduces winter wind and salt damage, bringing vibrant colors back to the otherwise yellowing autumn and winter scenery.
