The only overseas cherry blossom viewing spot certified by Japan—Nine Tribes Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off!

Taiwan’s largest cherry blossom event of 2015, the “Nine Tribes Cherry Blossom Festival,” officially runs from January 31 to March 15. In addition to around 5,000 “Nine Tribes Multi-layered Cherries” and a newly designed Fuji Cherry Blossom area, the festival has also introduced activities such as indigenous song and dance performances, essay and photography contests, wedding photo shoots, kimono cherry blossom viewing, and omamori (lucky charms) to enrich your cherry blossom experience, offering more travel options during the Spring Festival and winter vacation.

The Nine Tribes Cherry Blossom Festival was first held in 2001 with the inaugural “Sun Moon Lake Nine Tribes Cherry Blossom Festival.” The large number and concentrated display of blossoms amazed the public and successfully put the event on the map. In 2013, it was certified by the Japan Flower Association as a “Preferred Cherry Blossom Destination,” making it Japan’s only overseas-certified “cherry blossom viewing spot.”

This year’s Nine Tribes Cherry Blossom Festival began on January 31, led by the over 5,000 Nine Tribes Multi-layered Cherry trees in the park. These trees, created by grafting Taiwan mountain cherries onto yaezakura (double-flowered cherry), paint the Nine Tribes Cultural Village in soft pink hues. In February, the park introduces nighttime cherry blossom events featuring dazzling lights and music, creating Taiwan’s premier night cherry blossom wonderland. Additionally, a brand-new Fuji Cherry Blossom zone and Cherry Blossom Avenue have been added in the center of the park. These blossoms are light pink in color and bloom about two weeks later than the earlier ones, extending the cherry blossom viewing season so visitors can still enjoy the blooms until March 15.
