● Rikugien Garden (Tokyo)
The weeping cherry tree is the iconic symbol of Rikugien Garden. Standing approximately 15 meters tall and 20 meters wide, it blooms gracefully like a flowing waterfall. Here, every year during the cherry blossom season, the “Weeping Cherry and Daimyo Garden Illumination Show” is held. It took place from March 19 to April 5, 2015. The daytime scenery bathed in spring light and the nighttime illuminated view, showcasing its charm in the dark, are both worth seeing.

During the illumination period, the beech tree area “Sakura Tea House” sells light meals, snacks, and merchandise; additionally, the “Matcha Tea House” offers gift sets of matcha and traditional Japanese sweets. The final ordering and sales time is around 19:30, so it’s advisable to arrive early if you wish to dine, and an additional entrance fee applies.

Takeda Park is one of Japan’s three most famous night cherry blossom spots. During the viewing period, about 3,000 paper lanterns are set up. The three-tiered castle tower of Takeda Castle is illuminated, and 4,000 Yoshino cherry blossoms shine under the paper lanterns, reflecting a dreamlike scene on the water of the moat. The illuminated cherry blossom-lined street “Cherry Blossom Avenue” is also a popular attraction.
