Is Taipei ranked No. 1 on the list of must-visit global cities? Looks like everyone will be disappointed. On March 2, the Taipei City Tourism Bureau released a news statement saying that an American social news website listed 53 must-visit cities in a lifetime, among which Taipei ranked first. However, after actually visiting the website, it was confirmed that this news was a mix-up. Currently, the ranking of the 53 cities is merely the numbering for a voting activity, and Taipei has not yet entered the top 15.

An American social news website held a voting campaign titled “53 Beautiful Cities Everyone Should Visit At Least Once,” featuring images of 53 cities, with Taipei being represented by a stunning nighttime view of Taipei 101 and placed at the top of the website. Other cities on the list include Vancouver in Canada, Istanbul in Turkey, Hong Kong, New York in the U.S., and Bangkok in Thailand.

The Taipei City Government released a news article titled “Taipei Wins U.S. Web Award for ‘Must-Visit City in a Lifetime,’ Its Night View Ranked No. 1 Globally.” The article read, “Foreign friends have great taste. Because Taipei is diverse and inclusive, blending tradition with modernity, the beauty of the city reflects both the grace of a refined lady and the charm of a sweet young thing. Friends who haven’t been to Taipei really must come and visit in their lifetime…” In addition, it also mentioned that Taipei often attracts international media attention in terms of food and transportation. For instance, international media CNN once published a special article on its website introducing Taiwanese street food, highlighting stinky tofu and pepper buns from Raohe Night Market, and the internationally renowned travel magazine Global Traveler also praised the convenience of YouBike.
