Flower Watching in Pingtung: A Five-Hectare Sea of Blooms Brings Spring in Full Bloom

The park was previously plagued by poor soil quality, but after soil improvement through the planting of landscape green manure crops, the agricultural zones are now rich with the colors of spring. Among the blooms are pastel-colored cosmos, bright yellow cosmos, and a variety of colorful zinnias—the most eye-catching features of the park right now. Paired with art installations scattered throughout the flower fields, they add even more rustic charm. Unlike the vibrant colors of the flower sea area, light purple chinaberry blossoms are in full bloom near the park’s welcome path and forest stage area. The Forest Management Office explains that the chinaberry tree is a native plant of Taiwan. Because its bark, wood, and fruit have a bitter taste, and its roots, stems, and bark are toxic—yet also useful for medicinal purposes and as a natural, highly effective insecticide—the tree has long been valued. Its fruit resembles little bells and turns yellow when ripe, earning it the charming nickname “Golden Bell.” Due to their small size and light purple color, chinaberry flowers often go unnoticed, much like a lover quietly waiting for romance, striving to show their most beautiful side and releasing a fresh, subtle fragrance—hoping travelers will pause and look up to admire their beauty.
