The annual Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage will set off at 11 PM on April 17, beginning a nine-day, eight-night cross-county journey before returning and being enshrined on April 26. A variety of traditional theatrical performances, cycling events, and more will take place during the activity, kicking off the Mazu pilgrimage in full swing.

The 2015 Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage will set off at 11 PM on Friday, April 17, and return and be enshrined on Sunday, April 26. The Taichung City Government, in coordination with the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage, has invited the "Ming Hua Yuan Drama Troupe" to perform a ceremonial play at the intersection of Jiangong Road and Yude Road in Dajia at 7 PM on Sunday, April 12, as a pre-pilgrimage performance to celebrate Mazu’s birthday.

Immediately following the start of the Mazu procession on April 17, a viewing platform will be set up at the intersection of Jinguo Road and Zhongshan Road in Dajia. Starting at 6 PM, numerous performance groups from Taichung will take the stage, including the renowned Taichung performance troupe — Miao Xuan Dance Group, as well as the Starlight Saxophone Ensemble, Dajia Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Dakotas Drum Art Workshop, Zhongxiao Hall Variety Troupe, and the LED Dragon performance, War Drum Official Generals, Taiwan Zhongyi Hall Folk Art Troupe, Zhiyong High School Traditional Martial Arts Club, and Dajia Fifty-Three Villages Martial Lion and Tiger acts. These diverse and thrilling performances will make the Mazu departure day even more spectacular.

In addition to the pilgrimage, visitors can also join the “2015 Taichung Mazu International Tourism and Culture Festival” series of events. On May 3 at Wan Chun Temple in Taichung and Ciji Temple in Fengyuan, May 8 at Wuzhi Chaoyuan Temple in Wuqi, May 9 at Shekou Wanxing Temple, May 10 at Nanshing Temple in Taichung, and November 26 at gY Fuxing Temple in Dali, a range of Mazu-themed activities such as “variety shows,” “Gezaixi opera nights,” “music and dance performances,” and “Beiguan Luan Tan opera” will be held, inviting everyone to “go Mazu crazy” all year round.
