Easier internet access in Japan now available at 41 stations on the Tokyo Metro Yamanote Line with free Wi-Fi

Getting online in Japan is getting easier and easier. JR East Japan has recently announced an expansion of its free Wi-Fi service area, allowing future travelers to Japan to enjoy free WiFi at 41 stations within the Yamanote Line.

JR East Japan has been gradually rolling out its free wireless network “JR-EAST FREE Wi-Fi” initiative at its stations since the end of 2012. Travelers visiting Japan can now use the green “JR-EAST FREE Wi-Fi” signage found at ticket gates at Yamanote Line and some Chuo Line stations to access the internet without needing a password. The first time you connect to “JR-EAST FREE Wi-Fi,” you’ll need to log in using your email address. After logging in, each session can last up to 3 hours, and you can reconnect as many times as you like.

JR East Japan has stated that the number of stations offering free internet will increase to 24 by the end of April. In the future, a total of 41 stations—including 36 on the Yamanote and Chuo Lines—along with 5 JR East Japan Travel Service Centers (JR EAST Travel Service Center) will have free Wi-Fi available.
Traveling in Japan just got more convenient with free Wi-Fi at stations and on trains too.
