【Visit an Exhibition】Bunny Takes the Spotlight: Miffy’s 60th Anniversary Special Exhibition

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Miffy, Taiwan’s first-ever Miffy special exhibition will be held at Huashan 1914 Creative Park from June 19 to September 13. During the exhibition period, fans will be able to see national treasure-level original manuscripts by Dutch picture book master Dick Bruna, as well as precious displays such as Miffy clay animation scenes originally from the Netherlands and flown in for the event, all aiming to let fans experience the charming allure of Miffy together.

Miffy was born in 1955 in North Holland when author Dick Bruna took his one-year-old son on a vacation to the beach in Egmond aan Zee. On the beach, a little rabbit ran about without a care in the world, and that rabbit inspired Dick. So every night before his son went to sleep, he told him stories about the little rabbit. He then illustrated those stories, resulting in Miffy’s first storybook, “Miffy at the Seaside.” And so, Miffy was born that year.

This 60th-anniversary special exhibition will showcase Miffy’s evolution from 1995 to 2015. In addition, the exhibition will also feature analyses of Miffy’s creation, showcasing how her creator, Dick Bruna, used his unique “Dick Bruna Six Primary Colors” technique. By applying color theory and psychology, he enabled readers to feel the different emotions stirred by the storylines. With warm and simple brushstrokes, the picture books became more than just books—they gained significant artistic value.
