Taichung’s first large-scale multifunctional “Pinglin Forest Park” in the Taiping District, combining ecology, flood retention, landscaping, and recreation, was officially opened on the 21st. Covering an area of 11.7 hectares, the park features a 3.7-hectare pristine forest leisure area, a 32,000-cubic-meter flood detention basin, as well as a large performance plaza. It not only provides a recreational space for residents but also sets an example for Taichung to become a green city.

Pinglin Forest Park is located opposite the 803 National Defense Medical Center on Section 2, Zhongshan Road, Taiping District. The site was originally part of the military’s Pinglin Barracks. In line with the military’s streamlining policy, the less strategically critical Pinglin Barracks were decommissioned. Compared to Qiuhong Valley, the park’s soil has been engineered to allow infiltration, water storage, and drainage. Additionally, the park houses 695 native trees and a 3.7-hectare pristine forest, integrating ecological, landscaping, and recreational functions.
