The adorable and heartwarming Moomin characters from Finland have gained immense popularity in Japan, amassing a huge fanbase. Now, their immense fame has extended to postage stamps. Starting May 1st, Japan Post began selling two types of Moomin stamps, marking the first time they have been issued outside of Finland. The news has thrilled Moomin fans across Japan.

“Moomin” is the main character in the “Moomin Fairy Tale Series” created by Finnish author Tove Jansson. The stories depict the daily life of Moomin and his family along with a group of unique friends living in a valley. With themes of family, friendship, mutual support, and the pursuit of knowledge, the tales have captivated both children and adults. The Moomin image has also gained widespread recognition through films, television, and comics.

Japan Post’s newly released set includes two types of Moomin stamps: one set of 10 adhesive stamps at 52 yen each, and another set of 10 at 82 yen each. The 52-yen stamp set (10 stamps for 520 yen) features the well-known Moomin family, along with other characters such as Little My, Snufkin, and the Snork Maiden. Meanwhile, the 82-yen stamp set (10 stamps for 820 yen) showcases Moomin and his friends enjoying time together, with the Hemulens also making an appearance, radiating a joyful atmosphere. Both sets feature vibrant colors and cute designs that convey the uniquely warm vibe of Moomin, making them perfect collectibles to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Moomin’s creation. Fans of Moomin shouldn’t miss out.
