The Toy Nations United Sand Sculpture Art Festival Kicks Off in Fulong

Now in its 8th edition, the “Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival” grandly kicked off from May 2 to July 12. This year, 27 sand sculptors from 13 countries were invited to create works themed around “Toy Nations United,” showcasing childhood playfulness, collective memories, and the concept of peace through creative sand sculptures. The festival features 66 sand artworks including chessboards, toy soldiers, Monopoly sets, and more.

This year’s Fulong Sand Sculpture Festival spans 73 days, and especially this year, it has invited 27 sand sculptors from 13 countries — including the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Russia, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan — to participate in an international invitational competition. Using the theme “Toy Nations United,” they have crafted whimsical works with exquisite craftsmanship, offering a sensory experience that defies the ordinary.

The Northeast Coast National Scenic Area Administration states that Fulong Beach earned the title of "Golden Beach" thanks to its naturally superior soft and fine sand. When mixed with water, the sand has excellent plasticity and strong adhesive properties, making it the most suitable site for sand sculpture in Taiwan as rated by the World Sand Sculpting Association. It has received high praise from international sand sculpting experts. This year’s works present the creative theme of a “Toy United Nations” that transcends borders, ages, and memories, taking visitors on a journey through time and space across cultures and eras on Fulong Beach. With their eyes, guests can appreciate the globally beloved charm of toys, reawakening the innocence within everyone and being amazed by the dynamic and static artistic aesthetics displayed in the artworks.

2015 Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival
Event Dates: 2015/05/02 – 2015/07/12
Ticket Prices: General admission NT$100 / Group of 20 or more NT$90 / Students and seniors aged 65+ NT$80 / Free for people with disabilities and one accompanying person / NT$10 for children under 6 (insurance fee included)
* On May 2, the first 1,000 visitors will be admitted free of charge.
Transportation:
◎ Public Transport
Take any TRA train to Fulong Station, then walk about 5 minutes to reach the event venue.
◎ By Car
Head to one of the five shuttle bus pick-up points arranged by the organizer, then take a paid shuttle bus to the venue. Shuttle buses operate on weekends and holidays during the event period, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, approximately every 30 minutes (actual intervals may vary depending on traffic conditions). The fare is NT$15 per person for a one-way trip.

The “Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival” has been extended until August 31, and new sand sculptures themed “Prayers for Blessings” have been introduced. During the extension period, 10% of the proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated to the New Taipei City Government’s “Formosa Fun Coast Dust Explosion Relief Project”!
The original “Fulong International Sand Sculpture Art Festival,” scheduled from May 2 to July 12, had the theme “Toy United Nations.” However, after being hit by typhoons, some sand sculptures were severely damaged and could not be restored. After discussions, these works will be retained, and the theme for the extended festival period from July 13 to August 31 will be “After Tomorrow.” The organizers also announced that before the end of summer vacation in late August, a weekly “Sand Sculpture Destruction Show” will be held, with one sand sculpture announced each week for visitors to participate in its destruction, experiencing the symbolism of rebirth through the act of breaking down.
