With the opening of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, the Alishan Forest Railway and its Japanese sister railway, the Kurobe Gorge Railway, have launched a mutual ticket promotion. From April 28 to November 30, 2015, simply present your Alishan Forest Railway ticket to exchange for one round-trip ticket on the “Unazuki–Kurobe Dam” section of the Kurobe Gorge Railway for free before the end of November this year.

With the opening of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, the “Kurobe Gorge Railway,” which is only open from April to November each year, is located in Toyama Prefecture, Japan. It shares the same 762mm gauge system as the Alishan Forest Railway as a mountain railway, and was originally built as a dedicated line for early industrial resource development. In 2013, it became sister railways with the Alishan Forest Railway. To promote this wonderful friendship to travelers in both countries, the two sister railways decided to offer free ride tickets to each other’s passengers, encouraging cross-border railway journeys between the sister lines. Any traveler from Taiwan who takes the Alishan Forest Railway’s “Chiayi–Fenchihu” round-trip journey between April 28, 2015, and November 30, 2015, can, before the end of November this year, exchange one such round-trip ticket for one free round-trip ticket on the “Unazuki–Kurobe Dam” section of the Kurobe Gorge Railway.
