A light bus trip in Tainan: Grandma’s painted village and the Totoro bus, all in one go

Grandma’s painted village in Hu Cu Liao, Shanhua District, Tainan has a new attraction spot! A painted village in Hu Cu Liao, Shanhua District, Tainan, which conveys warmth and charm, has recently hidden a mammoth fossil skeleton within the hay maze area next to the “Glorious Era” painted wall. It is recommended that returning visitors take the Orange No. 2 Branch Line bus of the Greater Tainan Bus system, which also allows them to stop by the Totoro bus stop in Da Nei — one branch line connecting two unique painted villages.

The painted village at Grandma’s house in Hu Cu Liao, Shanhua District, was initiated by a granddaughter living in the city who wanted to cheer up her grandmother, who refused to move to the urban area. She started painting the old walls of their home, and the heartwarming bond between grandma and granddaughter moved the entire community. Residents actively joined in painting the outer walls. Over the past year, in addition to Totoro, tapirs, robots, and zodiac walls, the painted area has expanded even further with many more murals. Multiple guidance signs have also been set up for visitors to explore easily. A mahjong wall made of actual mahjong tiles has also been completed. Surprisingly, the initiator of Grandma’s Painted Wall, surnamed Li, borrowed a mammoth skeleton from the Shuguh Science Center and secretly placed it within the hay field area beside the “Glorious Era Wall.” Walking along the 2-meter-high hay maze path, visitors will eventually come face to face with the mammoth’s two towering tusks, creating a truly imposing sight.
