2016 Holiday Schedule Announced: Plan Ahead for the 9-Day Spring Festival!

The Ministry of Personnel Administration has released the 2016 (105th year) calendar, which includes seven long holidays (three days or more) for next year. These consist of the Founding Day of the Republic of China (3 days), Lunar New Year’s Eve and the Spring Festival holiday (9 days), Peace Memorial Day (3 days), Children’s Day and Tomb Sweeping Day (4 days), Dragon Boat Festival (4 days), Mid-Autumn Festival (4 days), and National Day (3 days), totaling 116 days off.

● The Founding Day of the Republic of China long holiday runs from January 1 to January 3 (Friday to Sunday, totaling three days off)
● The Lunar New Year’s Eve and Spring Festival long holiday runs from February 6 to February 14 (Saturday to the following Sunday, totaling nine days off)
● The Peace Memorial Day long holiday runs from February 27 to February 29 (Saturday to Monday, totaling three days off)
● The Children’s Day and Tomb Sweeping Day long holiday runs from April 2 to April 5 (Saturday to Tuesday, totaling four days off)
● The Dragon Boat Festival long holiday runs from June 9 to June 12 (Thursday to Sunday, totaling four days off)

● The National Day long holiday runs from October 8 to October 10 (Saturday to Monday, totaling three days off)
The Ministry of Personnel Administration pointed out that starting from October 21, 2014, amendments to regulations stipulate that any public memorial days or festivals falling on a Tuesday or Thursday will be adjusted to provide a day off, and in accordance with regulations, the preceding Saturday will be a working day. This adjustment ensures the total number of public holidays remains unaffected for the year, facilitating better planning of leisure activities. In addition to the above long holidays, other major holidays such as Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve fall on a Sunday and Saturday respectively, while Father’s Day and Christmas fall on a Monday and Friday and are not public holidays. Those planning to travel next year may want to start preparing early.
