Yayoi Kusama’s limited-time pop-up at Huashan Café Dian Dian launched in style

The polka-dot artist Yayoi Kusama from Japan kicked off her Asian tour exhibition in Kaohsiung this February, with the show moving to Taichung in June. Although there are no current plans for an exhibition in Taipei, fans shouldn’t be disappointed — from May through September, Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park is hosting a Taipei-exclusive Yayoi Kusama Café, allowing local fans to experience the charm of her iconic dots too.

Step into the Yayoi Kusama Café & Cultural Space at Huashan 1914 Creative Park, and you’ll find the venue covered in her signature red and white polka dots — from the ceilings and walls to the café tables and chairs — prompting many visitors to grab their cameras and snap away. The highlight of the limited-time café is the Kusama Pumpkin Pie, featuring a Japanese-imported pumpkin mousse with a stem made from matcha-flavored cookies produced in Shizuoka, Japan, creating a delightful flavor combination. There’s also a light cheesecake decorated with raspberries and black sesame to resemble “dots,” both desserts developed by Taiwanese bakers and approved by the Yayoi Kusama Studio as exclusive limited-edition treats. In addition, visitors can purchase exclusive merchandise from Yayoi Kusama’s “The Dreams I Dreamed” special exhibition.
