With the peak summer travel season underway, to protect consumer rights, the Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has published an overview of the travel industry’s operations in the first half of 2015 (from January 22 to June 16), which includes three agencies whose licenses were revoked, three that voluntarily suspended business, and eight that applied for dissolution.

The Tourism Bureau, in accordance with the Development of Tourism Act, has published a list of travel agencies under scrutiny, among whichTaipei-based You Mei International,Taichung-based Galaxy Travel,Taipei-based Ji Xingand three other agencies had their travel licenses revoked for failing to pay insurance premiums within the mandated deadlines; whileTaichung-based Da Xiong,New Taipei-based Dong Zhou,Taichung-based Ri Xinghave each requested voluntary suspension of business until the first half of 2016. Additionally,Taipei-based Liu Ji,Changhua-based Jin Li Hai,Taipei-based Happy Land,Taipei-based Sheng Xing,Taipei-based Huan Shi,Taichung-based Hao Shuai,Kaohsiung City's Baxian,Yunlin County's Changxinand 8 other travel agencies have applied for dissolution.
Additionally, the Tourism Bureau reminds travelers of the following key points when participating in tour group activities organized by travel agencies or purchasing international flight tickets:
● It is more secure to sign a travel contract with a legally licensed travel agency holding a valid travel business license, and you should confirm that the person you are dealing with is a certified travel industry professional.
● Before signing a contract with a travel agency, be sure to carefully read the terms of the contract and the itinerary details, and it is advisable to inquire about the agency’s business status. When making payments, request a receipt for collection and payment and ensure the agency has secured performance bond insurance and purchased liability insurance prior to departure. Travelers may also consider purchasing optional travel accident insurance based on their individual needs. In case of any disputes arising after signing the contract, you may file a written complaint with the Travel Quality Assurance Association (11F, No. 78, Section 2, Chang’an E. Rd., Taipei City) or the Tourism Bureau (9F, No. 290, Section 4, Zhongxiao E. Rd., Taipei City), attaching relevant receipts and the contract.
● Before traveling abroad, please check whether your passport is valid for at least six months. If your passport’s validity is insufficient, apply for a renewal as soon as possible.
Travelers can use the Tourism Bureau’s toll-free hotline 0800-211734 or the Travel Quality Assurance Association’s complaint hotline 02-25068185 for travel consultations. Additionally, if travelers encounter emergencies abroad, they can seek assistance from the “Foreign Travel Emergency Contact Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Global Toll-Free Number: 800-0885-0885).”
