Lukang Starbucks Opens, Combining Craftsmanship Features to Spark Conversation

Incorporating local craftsmanship features, the first Starbucks in Lukang, Changhua, officially opened on June 20 in the Lukang business district. Designed to resemble traditional white lanterns of Lukang and incorporating elements such as local bamboo weaving and block printing, the store plays with traditional charm. The new Starbucks Lukang branch hopes to inject a fresh style and character into the old town.

The Starbucks Lukang branch is located on the bustling Zhongzheng Road in Lukang Town. It is a standalone building that incorporates local craftsmanship. The exterior design takes inspiration from traditional Lukang lanterns, creating the first branch with a local craftsmanship style. Covering an area of about 90 pyeong, it has 122 seats. The interior space includes four zones: a floor-to-ceiling window scenic area, a group gathering area, two-sided stand areas, and a coffee time area—offering guests a rich variety of rest spaces while enjoying their coffee.

In addition to its unique and eye-catching appearance, the new branch also features decorations with traditional local elements such as wood carvings, jar walls, bamboo weaving, and hemp ropes. It further integrates local block printing techniques, adorning columns with patterns of coffee leaves, beans, fruits, and flowers. Everywhere you look, there are thoughtful touches of local culture. Additionally, to celebrate the opening of the Lukang branch, an exclusive mug has been launched. Featuring hand-drawn illustrations of Lukang imagery—including deer, bamboo, and lanterns—the mug aims to allow every guest who visits Starbucks to enjoy not only a cup of coffee but also the deep, simple cultural charm of Lukang.
