The beautiful natural scenery of Hualien has always been loved by both domestic and international tourists. In addition to the recently reopened popular hidden gem Mugumuyu, here’s a list of other must-visit, breathtaking attractions in Hualien. Seize your holiday and bring this list to conquer them one by one!

● Liushishi Mountain

From August to October each year, it’s the season when golden needle flowers bloom in Hualien. The bright yellow blossoms cover the mountains, weaving a dazzling golden carpet that attracts many flower-viewing visitors. The pavilion at the highest point, Wangyou Pavilion, is the best spot for watching the sunrise, while the Little Switzerland Viewpoint below is also an excellent observation spot. In addition, the farmland landscape of Liushishi Mountain has unique charm in all seasons. Visit during off-peak tourist times, and on clear days, you’ll see lush greenery covering the mountains. When fog rolls in, the mountains become dreamlike, like a paradise on earth. At night, you can also enjoy the starry sky and the Milky Way stretching across the heavens.

● Mugumuyu

Mugumuyu is considered the most dreamy hidden scenic spot in Hualien. The name Mugumuyu comes from the language of the Truku tribe. The earliest Truku people who migrated here used their language to praise this beautiful utopia. In July 2014, due to a typhoon, a landslide occurred on the trail, leading to its closure. Mountain entry applications reopened in June 2015.Currently, only applications for entry with hiking and fitness purposes are allowed, and general vehicles are prohibited from entering.

● Songyuan Detached House
Built during the Japanese colonial period, Songyuan Detached House was once the office of the Japanese military’s “Military Affairs Department.” It boasts an excellent sea-viewing vista, and dozens of old pine trees on the premises provide cool shade amid the greenery. Enjoying coffee among the trees or sitting leisurely on wooden chairs listening to the whispers of the pines are both wonderful experiences. Even on weekdays, you can see tourists wandering around the site.
 
● Xiuguluan River

The Xiuguluan River is Taiwan’s most famous rafting destination. Originating at the border between Hualien and Taitung, it stretches about 90 kilometers. With its winding river course and rapids formed by elevation changes, rafting here is extra thrilling.
