Taiwan’s First Green Architecture Railway Station – The New Keelung Train Station Dazzles with Art!

The new Keelung Train Station officially opened on June 29. In addition to being Taiwan’s first green architecture railway station powered by solar energy, it is also the first semi-underground station. This not only makes it more convenient for travelers to visit Keelung Miaokou, but also allows cruise passengers to reach the TRA station in just a few minutes and travel to various destinations in Taipei by train, significantly improving convenience. Moreover, its modern design is set to become Keelung’s most eye-catching new landmark. Additionally, to celebrate the opening of the new Keelung Train Station, track-switching operations will take place at Keelung Station and Sankeng Station on June 27 and 28. During this time, 266 train services will be suspended, and TRA has arranged free shuttle bus services for passengers.

The new and old Keelung Train Stations are about 250 meters apart and are divided into a south station and a north station, each with its own unique features. The south station, close to Miaokou Night Market, adopts an architectural design themed around “Keelung Chicken Cage.” Using glass curtain walls and solar panels, the new Keelung Train Station has become Taiwan’s first green architecture railway station, successfully achieving energy-saving and carbon-reduction goals. The roof features a viewing platform and an outdoor café for passengers to enjoy. The north station, near the West Coast Wharf, houses the artwork “Flowing Brilliance” created by Korean-American artist Park Sun-hee. It uses stained glass to depict the shimmering waves of Keelung Bay and the imagery of swimming fish. When sunlight streams into the station, the natural flow of “Flowing Brilliance” can be faintly seen. Tickets can be purchased and entry accessed from both ends (currently, the south station entrance is under construction and temporarily closed, while the north station entrance is open for entry and exit).

The Railway Bureau stated that after the completion of the new train station, passengers arriving in Keelung by train can conveniently head to Keelung Miaokou Night Market through the south station exit, greatly reducing travel time and distance. In addition, the north station exit provides easy access to the wharf and harbor to enjoy the seaside scenery. Cruise passengers arriving internationally can also take trains to various destinations across Taiwan with great ease. The old Keelung Railway Station is planned to be transformed into a space for cultural creativity and artistic exhibitions.
