Where to go in summer? Taiwan’s Top 10 Most Charming Water Bodies — Kenting Only Ranks Sixth

As summer arrives and it's once again the season for water fun, the Chinese Taipei Sports Federation recently organized the “Top 10 Most Charming Water Bodies Voting Campaign.” The month-long event drew participation from over 30,000 voters. The results are in: Keelung’s Waibushan Beach claimed first place, followed by Hsinchu City’s 17-Kilometer Coast and New Taipei City’s Fulong Beach, which took second and third places respectively. Kenting, often considered the most popular summer water play destination, only managed sixth place. Let’s take a look at what other spots made the top ten as voted by netizens!

Here are the final rankings of Taiwan’s Top 10 Most Charming Water Bodies:
◎ Keelung Waibushan

Located on the western side of Keelung City, this natural coastline is the longest remaining stretch of natural coast within the municipality. Heading west from here, you can reach Aodi and Jinshan. One side features steep cliffs, while the other showcases exquisitely shaped rocky shores. Though it's just a short 5-kilometer stretch of rocky coast, it offers many surprises to visitors. Sit by the sea, listen to the waves crash ashore, and breathe in the ocean air. The coastal walkway offers views of verdant cliffs and azure bays, with terrain that rises and falls, making it a great spot for both sightseeing and light exercise.

◎ Hsinchu City’s 17-Kilometer Coast

The 17-Kilometer Coast is a vital intertidal zone in northern Taiwan, rich in ecological landscapes. The seaside cycling paths are a favorite among bikers, the shoreline is perfect for jogging, and it’s also one of the best spots to watch the Xiangshan sunset. During holidays, the area is bustling with tourists from all over.

◎ New Taipei City Fulong Beach

Fulong is home to a golden sandy beach that has been developed into a popular seaside destination. With its 3-kilometer shoreline, it offers a wide range of beach activities such as sand sculpting, beach volleyball, and beach soccer. Or you can simply enjoy a warm, soothing sand bath. Its gently sloping beach is especially great for splashing around in the water and building sandcastles. Water sports like windsurfing and kayaking always draw excited crowds and elicit exclamations of joy.

◎ Pingtung County’s Little Liuqiu

Little Liuqiu is known for its naturally formed, oddly shaped rocks, rich intertidal ecosystems, and numerous fireflies at night. Coupled with convenient transportation and plenty of homestays, it has become a beloved destination for many travelers.
