The Serpentine Gallery in London unveils a colorful cocoon-themed summer pavilion

Since 2000, every summer, London’s Hyde Park has invited architectural design teams from around the world to create a three-month-long summer pavilion in front of the contemporary art gallery “Serpentine Gallery” (Serpentine Gallery), using the lush green lawns and trees as the setting. The uniquely shaped pavilion itself is a beautiful piece of land art. During the day, visitors can enjoy afternoon tea there, and by night, it transforms into a venue for performances or dances—truly special.

Each year’s Serpentine Gallery Summer Pavilion attracts considerable attention, with the invited architectural design teams required to create stunning works under limited conditions. The Serpentine Gallery stipulates that the invited architectural teams must build an open temporary structure within...300square meters, which must be easily dismantled and relocated elsewhere after the exhibition period. Additionally, the construction costs of the Serpentine Gallery Summer Pavilion are not covered by the gallery itself but must be raised and managed by the architectural team. Moreover, the invited teams must not have previously completed any architectural projects in the UK. In other words, the summer pavilion will be the team’s first work in the UK, making the final outcome particularly noteworthy within the architectural community.
