Race to Be the Summer Adventure King: Canyoning & Bungee Jumping Thrills on the North Cross-Island Highway

The North Cross-Island Highway is currently the only unobstructed and scenic highway among Taiwan’s three major cross-island routes. Starting from Daxi and passing through Cihu, Jiufenkeng, Little Wulai, and driving all the way up to Lalashan, it’s home to many popular tourist spots. The Taoyuan City Government Tourism Bureau specially held the “2015 North Cross-Island Tourism Festival – Summer Adventure King” from July 11th to July 26th, organizing four major events across the four key parks along the North Cross-Island. Whether it’s the heart-pounding bungee jumping, the refreshing canyoning experience, the fun and brain-teasing orienteering treasure hunt, or the family-friendly picnic fun, this summer, the North Cross-Island Tourism Festival has something to satisfy every traveler’s sense of adventure!

The North Cross-Island Tourism Festival kicked off on July 11th. The first-week event, “Summer Peach Treasure Hunt Orienteering,” took place on July 11th and 12th at Cihu Sculpture Park, which houses the largest collection of Chiang Kai-shek statues in the world. Not only does it boast beautiful natural scenery, but also a variety of uniquely shaped statues—perfect for exploring the beauty of Cihu. Following that is the limited-time, limited-quota event during the festival period, the “Baling One Jump” bungee jumping, held on July 17th, 18th, 25th, and 26th at the Lalashan area. Leap from the Baling Suspension Bridge, watch the stunning views of Lalashan flash past your eyes, and feel the canyon rushing up beneath your feet as you challenge your courage this summer!

The second week also features the “Pink Love Picnic Day” on July 18th and 19th at Jiufenkeng area. There will be a beautiful pink princess on-site for photos and fun, as well as special picnic packs made with local ingredients for the whole family to enjoy a wonderful day together. A mystery escape game is also planned to satisfy the curiosity of every escape room fan with its fun and brain-challenging design. The final week wraps up perfectly with “Cool Summer Creek Tales,” where on July 25th and 26th at the Little Wulai area, you can experience refreshing and exciting canyoning that tests your all-around agility, or join the checkpoint challenges organized by the hosts. Complete the challenges and receive a limited-edition bamboo water gun — everyone can become a member of the Water Gun Task Force. In addition, there’s also a cute Yellow Duckling water play area where a pool full of little ducks keeps you cool all summer long.
