With summer here, if you’re thinking of taking a short island getaway but don’t have much time, the stunningly scenic Little Liuqiu is a great choice. The Kaohsiung City Marine Bureau, in collaboration with Pingtung County Government, passenger ship operators, and travel agencies, has launched a new Blue Highway route from Fengbeitou Fishing Port to Dafu Fishing Port in Little Liuqiu, along with three tour packages—making it easy for everyone to enjoy an island escape during the summer break.

In the past, traveling to Little Liuqiu in Pingtung meant taking a boat from Donggang. With the launch of the new Blue Highway route between Fengbeitou Fishing Port and Dafu Fishing Port in Little Liuqiu, travelers can combine their trip with high-speed rail, MRT, and taxis—greatly reducing travel time and waiting at the dock. Paired with various tour packages offered by travel agencies, this creates a convenient one-day island-hopping experience for visitors from northern Taiwan.

Known as the “marine park,” Little Liuqiu is Taiwan’s only coral island. Visitors can take an island loop bus or rent a scooter to explore its sights. The north loop includes attractions such as Flower Vase Rock, Lingshan Temple, rich coral formations, and sea cliffs. The south loop features Little Liuqiu Underwater Zoo, Fairy Maiden Platform, and Lobster Cave, with pebbles, sandy beaches, and sisal plants forming the main scenery. Nature’s artistry has crafted unique rock formations across the island, turning a full loop into a feast for the eyes. Meanwhile, the “Liuqiu Dawn Glow” view is ranked among the top eight scenic spots in southern Taiwan. Watching the sunset, stargazing, playing in the waves, beachcombing, and soaking in the blue beauty make Little Liuqiu a popular summer destination.
