Tokyo Summer Festival: 66 Doraemons Appear in Roppongi

In August in Japan, it’s not just Yokohama that sees a flood of Pikachus — from the 18th to the 23rd, as many as 66 uniquely designed Doraemons also appeared in Tokyo’s Roppongi, inviting everyone to join the “TV Asahi 0 Summer Station” event organized by Japan’s TV Asahi at Roppongi Hills. The site also features a 3D illusion exhibition and Japan’s largest 10-meter-tall Doraemon balloon, which is highly anticipated.

The 2015 Roppongi Hills Summer Festival “SUMMER STATION” event is themed around “a summer festival in the city of the future.” In addition to taking photos with Doraemon, the event incorporates interactive features with mobile devices. Visitors can scan the QR codes under the Doraemons using their smartphones to read digital Doraemon comics. There are over 60 different comics for fans to collect, and those who manage to collect all 60 may have a chance to receive a special edition comic as an event giveaway.

If taking photos with the mascots isn’t enough, there’s also a 3D illusion exhibition where fans can take commemorative photos, including a paid experience called the “Mystery Box” and a free one called “Walking in the Sky with a Bamboo-Copter.” The “Mystery Box” includes three scenarios: “What if you go through the Gulliver Tunnel...!?”, “Ride a fantasy animal!” and “What if you enter the Woodcutter’s Spring...!?”. The free “Walking in the Sky with a Bamboo-Copter” is set up next to the 66 Doraemon exhibit area, allowing visitors to create wonderful memories of flying through the Tokyo sky with Doraemon characters using the bamboo-copter..
