A Summer Bike Mini-Trip to Find Taipei’s Most Beautiful Sunset

Summer is the best season for joyful outings. In Yanping Riverside Park, the Taipei City Government has not only widened the bike paths but also added riverside walking trails. Especially the two shiny “Landscape Wind Walls” next to the Dunhuang Pier sluice gate are a real eye-catcher. If you don’t want to stay cooped up in an air-conditioned room all the time, why not hop on a bike at Yanping Riverside Park, enjoy the breeze, and have a relaxing and pleasant time?

Starting from Dadaocheng Pier, it only takes 20 minutes to reach Dunhuang Pier. Along the way, you’ll pass the Yanping Riverside Park bike path. The widened lane makes for a smoother ride, and on holidays, many people come here to take walks, jog, or walk their dogs. There are three rest areas on the square shaped like paper airplanes, where both kids and adults can take a break, recharge, and enjoy the beautiful sunset over the Tamsui River—truly a refreshing experience.

And when you’re here, don’t just breeze through on your bike—take a moment to stop and look. Right across from the rest area is Dunhuang Pier, and the “wind-driven landscape walls” on both sides of the sluice gate are made up of many metal panels that turn slightly in the wind. During the day, the “TAIPEI” lettering glows brilliantly, putting on a dazzling light and shadow show. In the evening, they reflect the afterglow of the sunset, shining in glorious golden hues—it’s definitely the most beautiful highlight along Taipei’s riverbanks.

Riding north from the paper airplane-shaped rest area for about 30 minutes, you can reach Shizitou Park on Shihtiping. Here, you can not only enjoy the expansive view where two rivers meet, but also take photos with the internet’s hottest “3D Land Art.” Back at Dadaocheng Pier, on weekend evenings after 6 PM, you can enjoy street performers singing or playing the saxophone. On summer nights, with a gentle breeze along the riverbank and romantic melodies in the air, you’ll forget all about the summer heat. To end your summer bike mini-trip on a sweet note, head to the nearby Yongle Market or Ningxia Night Market for some delicious food.
