August marks the season when daylilies bloom brilliantly. The picturesque landscapes of Liushishi Mountain, renowned for its mountain scenery and often hailed as the most European-feeling spot, transform into a vast sea of over 70 hectares of daylilies every year, attracting large crowds of visitors and photography enthusiasts to enjoy the European-style mountain views and the golden fields of daylilies.

The name “Liushishi Mountain” is quite unique. It’s said to be derived from the abundance of stones in the area. Compared to the more rugged Dajianshan Mountain in Taitung, Liushishi Mountain features an unusually high number of rocks, with gentler terrain and a slightly larger area, resembling an enlarged version of a garden bonsai, famed for its vast beauty. At an elevation of about 800 meters, standing atop the highest point—Wangyou Pavilion—offers expansive views of the valley streams, farmlands, and settlements, and even sunrise. The stunning scenery resembles a layered Swiss landscape painting. The slopes and valleys are adorned with seas of daylilies, like orange-yellow floral carpets spread across the green forests and rooftops. Occasionally, you’ll spot farmers wearing floral bamboo hats, bending over to pick daylilies—a poetic and picturesque scene of human charm.

To allow visitors to not only admire the flowers but also engage more deeply, the Chinese Green Lifestyle Leisure Development Association is hosting three sessions of the “Golden Allure of Liushishi Mountain” and “The Joyful Beauty of Daylilies at Chike Mountain” events from August 24–26, August 28–30, and September 12–13. These activities invite visitors to go beyond a cursory glance at the flowers. Led by professional guides, participants can gain a deeper understanding of the local ecology and culture, and enjoy healthy, natural, and environmentally friendly sulfur-free daylily specialty meals. It’s a deep dive into a floral and culinary journey, experiencing the most beautiful summer rendezvous brought by thousands of blooming daylilies.
