After three months of closure for ecological recovery, Gueishan Island off the coast of Yilan will reopen to the public starting March 1. Visitors will have the chance to explore the island’s scenery while also enjoying the surrounding azure waters, which even famous celebrities have praised as comparable to Italy’s Blue Hole.

Gueishan Island will be open to the public for island tours from March 1 until the end of November. In line with the Tourism Bureau’s theme for this year — “Year of Ecotourism” — a beach cleanup activity was held on the 28th under the leadership of the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration, aiming to welcome incoming travelers with a pristine environment.

Just how beautiful is Gueishan Island’s natural scenery? In 2016, celebrity Hannah Quinlivan praised the island’s beauty as rivaling that of Italy. As you approach the island by boat, you’ll be surrounded by Tiffany-blue waters, and the iconic “Yin-Yang Sea” — where the sea changes color due to underwater hot springs and sulfur vents — is also a must-see highlight when visiting Gueishan Island.
