When traveling abroad, airfare often makes up the majority of your expenses. To save money, many people opt for budget airlines, but these typically come with more restrictions—such as limited legroom or no in-flight meals, etc. So before you depart, be sure to thoroughly understand the rules and precautions of the budget airline you’re flying with. Of course, you can also follow the list below to prepare some travel essentials. Even on a budget airline, you can still travel comfortably!

◎ Sunglasses
Most budget airlines operate red-eye flights to cut costs, which are often at less ideal times. Bringing a pair of sunglasses lets you sleep soundly or look better even with little rest.
◎ Slippers / Sandals
Long flights are uncomfortable enough, so consider bringing a pair of slippers to change into onboard—or wear comfortable sandals on the first day of your trip. This saves you the hassle of taking off and putting on shoes during the flight, letting your feet relax and breathe.
◎ Moisturizing products
Long hours of air conditioning can dry out your skin. Prepare a moisturizing spray, lotion, or lip balm under 100ml (allowed in carry-on luggage) to keep your skin hydrated and your complexion fresh.
◎ Sleep aids
Budget airlines often have smaller seats than regular airlines to fit more passengers, making sitting and sleeping less comfortable. For longer flights, make sure to bring an inflatable pillow and eye mask. They’re easy to store and help you fall asleep faster.

◎ Water bottle
Budget airline flights don’t provide meals or drinks. If you need water, bring an empty bottle and refill it at a water fountain after passing through security before boarding.
◎ Toiletries
For long-haul flights, pack basic toiletries to keep your breath fresh and avoid looking greasy.
◎ Time-passing items

Watching a movie is a common way to pass the time on a flight, but some budget airlines charge for in-flight entertainment. If you can’t sleep and want to kill time, bring a book or a phone/tablet loaded with movies, music, etc., to keep yourself entertained.
