The Yuanlin Urban Railway Viaduct Project, aiming to enhance the local character and diversity of the new Yuanlin Station, specially invited internationally acclaimed artist Yayoi Kusama to blend local elements of Yuanlin into the creation of a new public art installation — “I Set Off in My High Heels to Meet My Boyfriend.” The piece was unveiled on the 24th, offering everyone the chance to get up close to the master’s artwork.

In addition to its exterior design, which transforms the concepts of trees and bamboo baskets into a vision of “lightness,” “simplicity,” and “modernity” to reflect Yuanlin’s unique local character, the new Yuanlin Station also incorporates local features such as Changhua’s floral heritage, the abundant fruit produce of Baishan, the footwear industry in Fuxing, and TRA’s fan-shaped train depot into its public art. This collaboration crafts a station that feels made for love. On the east side in front of the station, internationally renowned artist Yayoi Kusama created “I Set Off in My High Heels to Meet My Boyfriend,” using her signature polka dot motifs to design the high heels and the flowers above them. The vibrant colors vividly express the excitement of a girl in love. Meanwhile, inside the station, there are additional artworks conveying themes of romance: Huang Jingyong’s “Facing Hope” in the station hall, Guo Guoxiang’s “Time-Space – Bloom” on the staircase from the hall to the second-floor corridor, Liao Xiuling’s “Tactile Memory” in the waiting hall, and Guo Guoxiang’s “Forest Life – Fun” on the platform pillars. These five pieces together convey feelings of love, transforming the station not just into a transit point but into an art sanctuary and a cultural landmark of “Yuanlin Awakening,” as well as a place to preserve memories of affection.
