Tainan’s charm lies not only in its historic landmarks and cuisine but also in its many distinctive shops that merge traditional and modern ideas, providing fresh surprises with each visit. Travelers who like to explore unconventional lodging can check out “Barbershop Hostel HASTO,” tucked away in an alleyway near the Anping Canal.

As the name suggests, “Barbershop Hostel HASTO” is a hostel infused with elements of a classic barbershop. The second-generation owner wanted to reshape people’s stereotypical image of barbershops, transforming the shop that his mother ran for 40 years into a hostel—using vintage barber chairs as beds and offering guests their own private sleeping spaces.
