Bring a book for a picnic at the Chinese Reading Festival

The 3rd Chinese Reading Festival will kick off during the Mid-Autumn holiday from September 24 to 28. Nearly 100 reading events will be held at Taipei Huashan, Kaohsiung Pier-2, and various cultural venues, combined with the currently popular grassy picnic experience. Everyone is invited to bring their favorite books and enjoy reading, bringing literature into everyday life.

This year’s Chinese Reading Festival continues previous editions with events including “Reading Theater,” “Reading Salon,” and “City Reading,” among nearly 100 other reading activities. In addition to supporting Taiwanese authors and encouraging quality literary creation, the festival also aims to engage translators proficient in Chinese to render Chinese works into various languages. It also hopes to establish Taiwan as a hub for learning the Chinese language.

This event also incorporates the currently trendy picnic culture, featuring a grassy reading session on September 27. Attendees are invited to bring along a favorite book and enjoy the beauty of the written word. Additionally, there will be a music installation titled “Sounds Beyond Words,” combining reading with music. Singers Yoga Lin, Wei Yuhsuan, music critic Ma Shifang, and Zhang Tiejun will each select a favorite song and read its lyrics aloud.
