Toast is nothing to look at now—watermelon-shaped mooncakes steal the spotlight!

Following the previous craze over watermelon toast, as the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, another bakery has gotten creative with the watermelon theme by launching small, adorable watermelon mooncakes. With their oval shape, these mooncakes are even more realistic and eye-catching than the toast, sparking another wave of frenzied buying.

Gema Art Cake, located in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, recently launched two types of watermelon mooncakes, including Mini Watermelon Mooncake and Big Red Watermelon Mooncake, both of which have become very popular. The green crust is made from matcha with bamboo charcoal patterns, making it look just like a mini watermelon. For the filling, the Big Red Watermelon Mooncake uses milk and red bean, while the Mini Watermelon Mooncake, aiming for a yellow flesh appearance, combines milk filling with healthy turmeric and Parmesan cheese powder. Each mooncake is priced at NT$50, on special for NT$40. Ever since their launch, they've caused an ordering frenzy. Due to overwhelming demand, the store has announced that from now until September 23, watermelon mooncakes will be temporarily suspended, so they can focus on fulfilling orders. From September 24 to 27, customers can pick up their mooncakes at the Tucheng branch by drawing a number starting at 4 PM each day. Phone orders will not be accepted during this period.

Additionally, Jimi Bakery in Yilan, which became an online sensation in May for its watermelon toast, has not only introduced watermelon mooncakes but also launched mooncakes in the shapes of bananas, corn, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes, and even golf balls. These creatively shaped mooncakes aim to bring everyone the most fun-filled Mid-Autumn Festival ever!
