Following Taipei City and Kaohsiung City, the Taichung City Government has also implemented same-sex partner household registration starting October 1. To show support, the Taichung Gender Equality Committee passed a resolution to raise the rainbow flag at three locations, including the new municipal building of the Taichung City Government, on October 3 during the Taichung Pride Parade, demonstrating support for gender diversity.

The issue of marriage equality for the LGBTQ+ community is gaining attention worldwide. In addition to the Taichung City Government raising the rainbow flag to show support for equality, the U.S. Supreme Court announced on June 26 this year that same-sex marriage is legal across the entire United States. The White House was also lit up in rainbow colors that evening to celebrate this step forward for LGBTQ+ rights, attracting many people to take photos. It was an impressive and historic day.

This year’s Taichung Pride Parade will gather at 2 p.m. on the 3rd and begin marching at 3 p.m. Before the parade, the rainbow flag will be raised at the new municipal building of the Taichung City Government, and Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung has been invited to give a speech. The parade route will start from Gōngyì Road, pass through Yīngcái Road, Shàngxiàng Road Section 1, and Zhōngmíng South Road, then return to the parade venue via Gōngyì Road. After the parade, there will be a charity sale and stage performances at the Civic Square venue. Three rainbow ambassadors—Yan Weiling, Hush, and Tanya Chua—have also been invited to perform at this year’s parade.
