As 2015 quietly draws to a close, Taipei 101 has announced this year’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display in advance. To welcome the arrival of 2016, Taipei 101 will present a show themed “Nature is Future,” featuring more than 30,000 fireworks that will light up the sky for 238 seconds—20 seconds longer than last year, making it the longest fireworks show in history.

Since Taipei 101 began its New Year’s Eve fireworks in 2005, the spectacle has repeatedly made international headlines and even attracted more and more foreign tourists to witness the event. This year’s show, themed around nature, is a collaboration with a French team and cost 45 million Taiwan dollars. It will feature 30,000 fireworks forming patterns of flowers, birds, and the ocean, with a dazzling 238-second display. In addition to celebrating the arrival of 2016, the nature-themed show also aims to inspire greater respect for nature and awareness of environmental protection.

Additionally, Yida’s New Year’s Eve fireworks show in southern Taiwan, which has drawn significant attention, is set to deliver an 888-second performance—nearly 15 minutes long—also the longest in its history. The show will celebrate the vibrant new year through four major themes. However, due to the impact of the Formosa Fun Coast explosion incident, Yida will not hold a New Year’s Eve gala this year.
