Nantou’s cherry blossoms are in full bloom now—the Shanlinxi Forest Eco-Resort has a hidden cherry blossom paradise.

Late February to early March is usually the prime time for cherry blossom viewing, but this year, due to climate effects, the blooming period has been postponed in many areas, and the floral conditions have fallen short of expectations. However, not everywhere is disappointing—inside theShanlinxi Forest Eco-Resort in Zhushan, Nantou,the cherry blossoms are thriving. I planned a one-day trip to Shanlinxi during the 228 Holiday. For friends living in central Taiwan, a round-trip in a single day is totally feasible.

But for those coming from farther away, a two-day trip to Shanlinxi might be a better option. Currently, besides cherry blossoms, tulips are also in bloom here. The flowering season is expected to last until mid-to-late March, so those eager to see vast cherry blossom forests should hurry and plan a visit.

The entire Shanlinxi Forest Eco-Resort is home to about 1,500 cherry trees. From the entrance to the parking area around Shanlinxi Hotel, the surroundings are now entirely enveloped by pink cherry blossoms. The resort features various cherry varieties, including mountain cherry, pink Yoshino cherry, Wushe cherry, and Fuji cherry. Near the hotel cabins, along the stream, the mountain cherries are already in full bloom.

The cherry trees in the parking lot around Shanlinxi Hotel are also bursting with blooms.

In front of the hotel, this particular cherry grove differs from the mountain cherries—it’s the pink Yoshino cherry variety, showcasing a soft pink hue. Though the number of trees here is limited and the area is relatively small, the dense planting means that when you look up, the sky is veiled by these pale pink blossoms. The height of this pink cherry grove is also lower than other mountain cherries, making it very photogenic. When a gentle breeze blows, it creates a stunning pink cherry blossom shower.

Looking toward the pink Yoshino cherry grove from the entrance of the Forest Walk offers a different perspective—the view changes dramatically between afar and up close. From this angle, you can even occasionally spot drifting clouds, creating an incredibly beautiful and dreamy scene. The interplay of pink cherry blossoms and mist forms a hazy charm. Shanlinxi sits at an altitude of about 1,600 meters, where weather changes rapidly—clouds and fog can appear out of nowhere without warning. Due to these sudden shifts, roads leading out of Shanlinxi often become foggy in the afternoon, so whether ascending or descending, extra caution is advised.

Meanwhile, the white Wushe cherries in the park have also begun to bloom in some areas, with several trees near the herb garden currently flourishing.

Aside from cherry blossoms, tulips are another highlight at Shanlinxi. The herb garden boasts a rich display of tulips. Beyond admiring the cherry blossoms, visitors can also stroll along the resort’s walking trails, which are not too strenuous. Alternatively, taking the shuttle bus for a tour of the entire park offers a more relaxing experience.
