Typhoon Koppu, a medium-strength typhoon, caused disasters and casualties in the Philippines. After completely leaving Luzon Island on the 21st, its intensity weakened to near that of a minor typhoon. It then began moving northward and approaching Taiwan. Typhoon Koppu weakened into a tropical depression at 8:00 AM on the 20th, with a central pressure of 1000 hPa, located at 19.4°N, 122.4°E, in the northeastern offshore area of Luzon Island in the Philippines. It is moving slowly northeastward. Ships navigating and operating in the Bashi Channel and waters east of Taiwan should pay special attention. Heavy rain alerts are in effect for Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, mountainous areas of New Taipei City, Tainan, Chiayi, and Pingtung.
