Japan’s Most Beautiful “Twilight Express Mizukaze” – A Moving Hotel Starting from ¥90,000 per Night

Dubbed one of Japan’s most beautiful trains, the Twilight Express Mizukaze will begin operations in June 2017. It’s highly anticipated.

According to the Lonely Planet website, this sleeper train will take passengers to some of the most spectacular sights, passing through Kyoto, Matsue, Izumo, Miyajima, and the Sea of Japan. There are a total of five routes, including both two-day-one-night and three-day-two-night itineraries. The latter traverses both the San’yo and San’in regions, with each route making a daily stop at a sightseeing spot.

The train’s power generation is quite interesting, primarily combining diesel and battery power. Marketed as a “moving hotel,” its interiors are based on the popular décor of the early Showa period. Cabin options include single and double rooms, as well as suites. The suites come with a balcony, dining room, bedroom, and bathroom. The observation cars are located in the last two carriages, where passengers can enjoy views of the scenery along the train’s route.

Currently, tickets for this train can only be purchased in Japan and are limited in availability. The key point is, the fares might make you take a step back — the cheapest ticket costs NT$90,000, while the most expensive is around NT$330,000.
