The world's most VA attraction, Seattle's gum wall, has been cleaned up

The so-called “world’s grossest tourist attraction,” Seattle’s gum wall in the United States, is coated with 20 years of accumulated chewing gum residue—a unique landmark co-created by locals and international visitors. For years, millions of colorful wads of gum have weighed down the wall. For safety reasons, local authorities began a cleanup operation on the 10th, scraping off the gum. This historically rich gum wall has temporarily said goodbye to everyone.

This unusual attraction, the “gum wall,” is located at Seattle’s Pike Place Market, specifically on the exterior wall of the Market Theater. Since around the 1990s, theatergoers waiting for shows began sticking their chewed gum onto the wall. Over time, the entire surface became covered in red, yellow, green, blue, and various other colored pieces of gum, turning it into an alternative “interactive” art installation. It attracted tourists from all over the world who came to pay homage and add their own creative touches.
