Tainan’s new attraction: o_ Lake Waterfront Park sparks urban imagination

Tainan’s classic cityscape is beloved by both domestic and international travelers, and this beautiful city is about to unveil a new attraction — “o_ Lake Waterfront Park” — which has generated great anticipation among locals and visitors alike. Recently, the Tainan City Government held the “Fucheng Axis Landscape Redevelopment International Design Competition,” and the results have been announced. The top prize was awarded to a collaborative team comprising Urban People Planning & Design, architect Li Liru’s firm, and the Dutch firm MVRDV, among other domestic and international partners. This winning team will take priority in undertaking the design and supervision of the project. In the future, Tainan’s China Town will be transformed into the o_ Lake Waterfront space, revitalizing the canal waterfront area. Construction is expected to officially begin in mid-2016.

The winning design by Urban People Planning & Design, Li Liru Architect, and the Dutch firm MVRDV, among other partners, is centered around the concept of o_ Lake and a natural urban environment. It aims to promote water recycling and create a green waterfront space for Tainan. The design not only improves the urban microclimate but also enhances interaction within the urban landscape.
