The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum is expected to begin operations on December 28. To celebrate the most significant cultural development in Chiayi over the past 60 years, the Chiayi County Government has specially planned the “Palace Museum Opens Chiayi Gates, Enjoy Artistic Lantern Fun” event, which will last for 66 days starting December 19 until the next Lantern Festival.

The “Palace Museum Opens Chiayi Gates, Enjoy Artistic Lantern Fun” event is divided into two main parts: “Lantern Display Area” and “Performance Activities.” The “Lantern Display Area” is set up in front of the Chiayi County Government and along the 1-kilometer-long Prince Avenue, featuring eight major themed lantern zones. These primarily showcase Chiayi’s local specialties and cultural landscapes, incorporating elements of Asian art and culture, highlighting modern art and environmental sustainability. Zones include the Bell Tower Lantern Zone, County Government 3D Light Sculpture Zone, Joy Lantern Zone, Agriculture Lantern Zone, Themed Story Lantern Zone, Religious Lantern Zone, and more. Among them, the “3D Light Sculpture Show” invites Singapore-based Hexogon Solution as the artistic director to create a spectacular 3D light sculpture show of at least 10 minutes. It utilizes the distinctive features of the county government building, integrating local cultural products and Christmas elements, presented through a combination of light, shadow, and animation.

The “Performance Activities” will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on December 19, 20, 24–27 (a total of 6 days) at the stage area in front of the county government bell tower. Performances include the Korean girl group “Cat Drum Show,” MRG Magic Fantasy Circus, Mirror Theater Troupe, Shake Special Effects Art Troupe, Strong Argument Band, Chairman Band, Jivas Band, as well as the new group “Fire Extinguisher,” all delivering energetic shows on different dates and time slots.
