Slide down in just 12 seconds — Kaohsiung unveils Asia’s tallest slide

The National Science and Technology Museum has introduced what is claimed to be Asia’s tallest spiral slide, standing 18 meters high — about five stories — with a total length of 46 meters. It takes just 12 seconds to slide from top to bottom, offering visitors an exciting experience while learning about universal gravitation, potential energy, kinetic energy, and other scientific concepts. The slide is available for experience from now until October 12, 2016.

The Museum of Science and Technology is the largest applied science museum in the country and a hub for science education in southern Taiwan. Now in its 18th year since opening, the museum upholds the philosophy of “making technology part of daily life and daily life part of technology.” Through its rich collections, diverse exhibits, engaging activities, and practical cultural and creative products, the museum shares new insights in science education, applying scientific concepts widely in everyday life. To make learning fun, “experiential education” is key. By promoting the concept of “learning science through experience, and experiencing through science,” the museum aims to enhance public scientific literacy. As such, the museum’s 11 experiential facilities have always been among its most popular highlights.

This time, the Museum of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Nan-Yi Creative Engineering Co., Ltd., has imported the “Ultimate Thrill, Experience Science – 3D Spiral Slide” from Germany. The installation is paired with science education demonstration activities, along with displays explaining the scientific principles behind the facility and sharing new developments in popular science. While visitors enjoy the ultimate thrill, they also cultivate a positive scientific spirit and attitude, as well as a richer understanding of science in life and its applications.
