Double-decker buses are a common memory for many travelers to Europe, but now you can experience them in Taiwan without going to Europe. Taiwan’s first double-decker bus is scheduled to hit the road in the second half of this year, starting in Kaohsiung. The double-decker bus route will focus on major attractions in Kaohsiung, including Dream Mall, Pier-2 Art Center, and West Bay, as part of the city’s efforts to promote urban tourism.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications stated that after opening up double-decker sightseeing buses with open upper decks, applications have been approved for Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. Among them, Kaohsiung has been the most proactive, and it is expected to introduce the buses in the second half of the year, becoming the first city in Taiwan to operate a fleet of double-decker buses.

The double-decker bus operation in Kaohsiung has been awarded to Kaohsiung Bus. The main route focuses on major tourist attractions in Kaohsiung, including Dream Mall in Asia New Bay Area, Pier-2 Art Center, West Bay, and the Kaohsiung Municipal Library. The total route spans 17 kilometers, takes about 50 minutes, and the fare is tentatively set between NT$200 and NT$250.
