Taiwan's first giant river sand exhibition — the 2016 Nantou Maoluo River Sand Sculpture Art Festival debuts, themed "Legends of the Century." It invites master sculptors from 28 countries to create using up to 500 tons of Maoluo River sand, with five major exhibition zones recreating legendary scenes stretching one kilometer long. These include a 60-meter-long sand dragon, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and other imaginative works that offer visitors a feast for the eyes.

The 2016 Nantou Maoluo River Sand Sculpture Art Festival is on display from now until March 6 at the Maoluo Riverbank near Lumei Bridge in Nantou City. Sand sculpting experts from around the world take advantage of the strong adhesive quality of Nantou’s river sand to craft lifelike characters. With the theme "Legends of the Century," they have created five major zones: the Century Battle, Fantasy Wharf, Elf Market, Angel Garden, and Dream Castle. Along the one-kilometer exhibition area, visitors can see works featuring elements from both East and West — castles, dragons, elves, Sun Wukong, and more — as if stepping into a fantastical kingdom made of sand.
