Harbin, located on the border between Russia and Mongolia, experiences icy and snowy conditions for about five months of the year. Now in its 32nd year, this event is themed “The Pearl on the Ice Crown” and features a 750,000-square-meter exhibition area that includes ice sculptures and a dazzling light show. Visitors are advised to come in the evening when every ice sculpture is internally illuminated with rainbow-colored lights, creating a spectacular and ever-changing display of light, shadow, and ice.

Beyond the basic ice sculptures, the Alaska Winter Festival draws inspiration from Spain’s Running of the Bulls. Each winter, it launches a unique reindeer chase event that attracts numerous participants to run and compete along snowy roads while enjoying enthusiastic cheers from the roadside crowds. In addition, there are hockey and snow softball competitions, and the most fun of all is the snowball battle game — Yukigassen — which originates from Japan’s snowy dodgeball tradition.
