The first cold wave of this winter is expected to arrive on the 23rd. The Meteorological Bureau forecasts that temperatures will begin to decline from the 22nd, leaving Taiwan feeling cold until the 25th. Due to the low temperatures and sufficient moisture, the snowfall elevation may also be reduced to 1,500 – 1,000 meters, making it possible to see snowy scenes without having to go up high mountains.In addition, another cold wave is moving southward from the high pressure over the Mongolian Plateau and may arrive around New Year's Eve, which requires special attention.

According to the Meteorological Bureau, the first cold wave of this year will arrive on the 23rd. The coldest period is expected to be from the evening of the 24th to the early morning of the 25th, with the possibility of the lowest temperatures in various areas dropping below ten degrees. Current forecasts are as follows: Taipei City at six degrees, northern regions at five degrees, central regions at seven degrees, southern regions at eight degrees, Yilan at six degrees, and Hualien at eight degrees. Zheng Mingdian, Director of the Meteorological Bureau’s Forecast Center, also mentioned on his personal page that the lower limit of the snowfall elevation is currently expected to easily drop below 1,500 meters, and may even go as low as below 1,000 meters. Therefore, you don’t need to go up high mountains — snowy views might be seen near the mountains.

In the Taipei area, due to sufficiently low temperatures and ample moisture, Yangmingshan might experience snowfall. The Yangmingshan Management Office stated that if it does snow, it would be the first time in seven years since January 24, 2009. Snow is expected to cover the peaks of Datun Mountain, Qixing Mountain, and Zhuzi Mountain. Additionally, high mountains above 1,500 meters including Yushan, Hehuan Mountain, Lala Mountain, Li Mountain, Alishan, and Taiping Mountain all have the potential for snowfall.
