The Red-faced Duck and Blue Orca Make Their Debut at the Hualien Pacific Lantern Festival

The annual Hualien Pacific Lantern Festival will once again light up the town just before Lunar New Year, running from January 30 to February 29. In addition to tens of thousands of bright red lanterns illuminating the main streets of Hualien’s 13 townships, major light zones will also be set up in the Sixth Redevelopment Zone of Hualien City and at Liyu Lake, featuring the first-ever water-light tech show, Blue Orca light show, and 3D Red-faced Duck projection water dance performance in Taiwan. This cutting-edge festival combines dynamic displays on both land and water, with daytime and nighttime shows every day, bringing joy and festivity to both locals and returning travelers as they welcome the new year with happiness.

Each year, the Pacific Lantern Festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors, creating a lively festive atmosphere. During this year's event, in addition to lanterns decorating the streets of all 13 townships in Hualien, there will also be large lantern displays themed around monkeys, adding to the celebratory mood. The most anticipated light zones—located in the Sixth Redevelopment Zone and at Liyu Lake—will feature dazzling daily shows of the Red-faced Duck’s water dance, highlighting the charm of the Red-faced Duck family and showcasing a vibrant, dynamic beauty.

The 2016 water dance performances utilize brand-new high-luminance energy-saving LED spotlights to create an unprecedentedly brilliant light effect. The festival has also invested heavily in three mixed-gas water curtains, each spanning a total width of 60 meters, arranged in a staggered, three-dimensional setup. These are combined with full-color lasers and outdoor pattern lights, projecting onto the water screens using rear projection. With the power of dynamic music, the result is a breathtaking 3D audiovisual water dance spectacle.
